Auditoriums Meet

SPEAKER PREVIEW: The New Lincoln Center: Triumphs and Takeaways

In 2006, ground was broken on a comprehensive, US$1.2bn redevelopment programme to transform and reinvigorate the Lincoln Center’s 16.3-acre arts campus in the heart of New York City.

With the capital programme set for completion this month, we are delighted to welcome Ron Austin and Kara Medoff Barnett to the AuditoriumsMeet 2012 programme, to share lessons from the redevelopment of an iconic institution for a new generation of artists and audiences…

Ron (Executive Director, Lincoln Center Development Project) and Kara (Executive Director of International Project Management, Lincoln Center for Performing Arts) will explore the initial goals of the redevelopment and the challenging and rewarding path to a Lincoln Center that The Washington Post described as “livelier, smarter, hipper and more inviting.”

Ron and Kara will illustrate the conditions of the world’s largest performing arts center as it approached its 50th anniversary and then take the audience through a day in the life of the new Lincoln Center: accessible and grand, transparent and functional, elegant and dynamic. The presenters will share lessons learned in areas including fundraising, branding, and operations in the process of undergoing this major project.

Phillip Kennicott of The Washington Post wrote of Lincoln Center’s redevelopment: “The architects have lightened and enlivened the space, opened it up to the city and added touches of humor and eccentricity.” In Edinburgh, Ron and Kara’s presentation promises to honor this playful aesthetic.

Bringing together executives from the world’s concert halls, arenas, theatres, festivals and performance spaces, AuditoriumsMeet 2012 is the essential industry meeting for venue owners, operators and developers.
