SPEAKER PREVIEW: Building lessons from the AEG Facilities playbook

As one of the world’s largest sports and entertainment facility operators, AEG has unique insights into operating buildings, from the inside out.

Balancing the diverse demands of all venue stakeholders (owners, operators, teams, sponsors, VIPs and fans), the company has established new guidelines on what ‘works’ and what doesn’t when it comes to designing, building and fitting-out new facilities.

Drawing on recent case studies – including the opening of Ülker Sports Arena and BBVA Compass Stadium – Raj Saha, Regional Director of Operations, AEG Facilities, Europe will join the international speaking line up at TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit to share AEG Facilities’ approach to stadia design & development.

Opened in January 2012, the 200 million Turkish Lira Ülker Sports Arena has single-handedly changed the sports and entertainment industry in Turkey. Home to Fenerbache Ülker basketball club, the 15,000 seat multi-purpose Arena (pictured above right) is the centrepiece of Alpella Youth City, located in the heart of the Asian side of Istanbul.

Meanwhile, the $95million BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas (pictured above left) opened to acclaim in May 2012. The state-of-the-art, 22,000 capacity venue is the first soccer-specific stadium in Major League Soccer located in a city’s downtown district, hosting Houston Dynamo matches as well as additional sporting and concert events.

Drawing on these openings, and additional lessons from AEG’s extensive venue portfolio, Raj Saha will open AEG Facilities’ playbook in Warsaw this November, to offer valuable insights for stadium designers and developers to consider… before pouring any concrete!

About the speaker:

Raj Saha is Director of Regional Operations for AEG Facilities in London, providing expertise in building services, event operations, guest services, security and building design across all of AEG Facilities’ properties in Europe.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Raj lived and worked in the US for many years; starting his career at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, before moving to Madison Square Garden. After 9 successful years at MSG, he joined AEG 2006 and has served in a variety of roles in Chicago, New Jersey and now London, where he is currently involved in many AEG Facilities’ projects globally.

Raj has been instrumental in conducting successful building openings in 2003 (Rentschler Field), 2006 (Toyota Park), 2007 (Prudential Center), 2008 (O2 World Berlin), 2011 (Turk Telekom Arena) and 2012 (Ulker Sports Arena and BBVA Compass Stadium).

Став базой для баскетбольного клуба Fenerbache Ülker , многофункциональная арена на 15000 мест, (на фото вверху слева), стала центром притяжения населения Молодежного Города Alpella, расположенного в самом центре азиатской части Стамбула.

Между тем, стадион BBVA Compass Stadium в Хьюстоне, штат Техас (на фото вверху справа) обошелся в 95 миллионов долларов США и был открыт под шумные возгласы в мае 2012 года. Будучи предметом искусства, рассчитанный на 22000 мест, он является первым специализированным футбольным стадионом для матчей высшей лиги, расположенным в деловой части города, где регулярно проводятся матчи Houston Dynamo, а также есть возможность проводить дополнительные спортивные и концертные мероприятия.

Опираясь на эти «открытия», а также дополнительные уроки из обширного опыта AEG Facilities, Радж Саха раскроет ценную информацию от AEG Facilities в Варшаве в ноябре этого года, предложив ее рассмотрение вниманию профессиональной аудитории дизайнеров и разработчиков стадионов нового поколения.
