SPEAKER PREVIEW: Craven Cottage’s Riverside redevelopment

Fulham Football Club recently announced plans to expand its famous Craven Cottage stadium (pictured) – at TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2012 in Warsaw, delegates will get the chance to hear first-hand how the project will help drive the club to further successes on, and off, the pitch.

The project will see an additional 4,000 seats added to the club’s Riverside Stand, taking the total capacity to 30,000.

“Over the last decade, we have seen match attendances almost treble, from 9,000 per game in to 25,700 – our current capacity, which is regularly sold out,” explains Sean O’Loughlin, Finance Director at Fulham FC, who will present the project on Day 2 of the conference programme at TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2012.

“For the last three seasons, we have been at capacity at almost every fixture. Throughout that period, we have continually improved the facilities at Craven Cottage, but have now reached the limits of what is achievable on the current site.”

“To ensure that the Club can continue to prosper and compete at this level, major investment in the ground is required.”

“The redevelopment will not only increase our capacity, but will allow us to substantially improve the matchday experience for our fans,” continues Sean. “In addition, and as a direct consequence of the improvements, the riverside walk from Putney to Hammersmith will be opened for the first time in recent history, therefore ensuring the work undertaken benefits our local community.”

Amongst other things, the new stand will provide a larger club shop, new restaurants and a wide range of bars and food outlets, as well as substantially increasing the number of public convenience facilities. The redevelopment will also bring numerous benefits for local residents, says Sean. “The new stand will dramatically improve the appearance of the area, and with facilities such as a riverside café open to the public on non-matchdays, we are confident it will be seen as a huge improvement to the landscape of the Thames in this area.”
