2013 Winners In Focus – Unsung Hero Award
The Greenkeeping team at Letzigriund, Zurich, Switzerland won our 2013 Unsung Hero Award fighting off stiff competition in this category. All the nominees can be located here.
The Letzigrund Greenkeeping team have their work cut out for them as they have double the amount of football games as they are home to Grasshopper Club and Football Club Zürich. Additional difficulties are the concerts, athletic meetings and friendly games they host, in total they have approximately 65 numbers of uses. Even the high amount of games and events they didn’t change their turf (just for EURO2008 as an order of the UEFA).

Team Effort
The greenkeeping team’s committment to prepare the field, considered one of the best in Switzerland, is one of the reasons they are winners of our ‘Unsung Hero Award’. Even the Italian National team of 2008 and 2012 and the National team of Spain (2010) have commented on the quality of the playing surface. Since the stadium opened there has not been a cancellation due to the quality of the field, even when there has been 50cm of snow!
A true team effort.
